Theme Song: There is a lot of original music in this movie, most of it written by Don Harrow and featuring Richard Parenti.
“Come Around” is a boogie-centric, Springsteen-esque number that plays no less than 4 times in the movie.
“Summer Daze” radiates heavy AOR sexy song vibes.
95% of the film’s cast and crew is comprised of Chicagoans, and if I’m correct in assuming Don Harrow was this guy from Schaumburg, Illinois, then he didn’t pursue a music career and passed away in 2012.
Richard Parenti appears to be a sought-after saxophone player in the Chicago music scene, including credits with Wilco, Archer Prewitt, and Mavis Staples. It’s possible Parenti is on vocals in all of these tracks, but I couldn’t verify.
Interesting Dated References: Walking into a strip club and giving a hearty thumbs-up upon seeing women in various states of undress.
Social Context: This movie has no social context aside from perpetuating the stereotype of privileged, 20-something, white peoples’ sexual needs being placed above all others in our society.
Summary: A group of horny guys (including ‘80s tropes like “nerd,” “belching fat one that grunts,” “handsome one who doesn’t realize he is good looking,” and “spazz”) decide if they ever want to get laid they’ll need to film a mock porno.
So they take out ads, set up fake sets, and proceed to act like film producers. But then the mob catches wind of their scheme, and in order to be released from an agreement you don’t care about, they insist the fellas film an actual pornographic movie.
So they do, and end up having to star in the movie themselves as a result of hijinks not worth mentioning.
Though nothing is off-limits, including jokes about sexually-active children, every attempt at humor ends with a thud. One of the more memorable scenes involves a guy fantasizing he’s in a threesome, only to wake up and realize it was in fact his dog giving him a blow job. Very erotic!
Worth Mentioning:
– Filmed entirely on location in Chicago, although most of the shots are interior, so there weren’t a lot of landmarks to spot. Here’s a picture of the Riviera Theatre:
– B-movie queens Monique Gabrielle (Hot Moves) and Michelle Bauer (Cafe Flesh, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers) feature heavily in Screen Test in various states of undress.
– A lot of the cast and crew were Chicagoans and for many of them this is their only credit.
– Yes, there are boobs in this movie.
Poster and Box Art: This is a very successful poster in that they got Gabrielle and Bauer to both appear. This definitely oversells the 82-minute trash pile within. The home video release features the same artwork.
